Amprion is building the converter station for its A-Nord direct current link at Emden-Petkum, Lower Saxony. The link runs about 300 km to Meerbusch-Osterath in North Rhine-Westphalia and will carry 2,000 MW of wind power, and Amprion puts the whole project at about €3bn. The 10 hectare site has four converter halls and 13 transformers of about 300 tonnes each. Amprion reported about 200 construction workers on site in September 2025, all 13 transformers were in place by April 2026, and in July 2026 the drilling under the Ems was finished and cable work to the grid connection began.
Commissioning is planned for the end of 2027. Amprion's separate Korridor B project, two 525 kV links with 4 GW in total, is planned for 2032, with the route approval application expected from summer 2027. In October 2026 the Ostfriesen-Zeitung reported that housing need in Emden keeps rising, so electrical and commissioning crews spread to Leer, Aurich and Norden.
