Amprion is building the onshore converter station for its BalWin1 offshore grid connection at Bohmte, Landkreis Osnabrück, Lower Saxony. A new 380 kV line of about 6.5 km will connect the converter to the Wehrendorf substation in Bad Essen, which is in plan approval, and Wehrendorf has its own three-year expansion. In July 2026 Amprion moved BalWin1 commissioning from 2030 to 2031, citing harder ground at Bohmte and extra work offshore. BalWin2 connects at Westerkappeln with main works from spring 2027. Bad Essen had 16,265 residents at the end of 2024, so crews base in Bohmte, Bad Essen, Lübbecke and Osnabrück.
