ÖBB-Infrastruktur is building the 27.3 km twin-bore Semmering Base Tunnel between Gloggnitz in Lower Austria and Mürzzuschlag in Styria, part of the Southern Railway from Vienna to Villach. Mürzzuschlag had 7,648 residents and Gloggnitz 5,824 in 2026, so rail systems and electrical crews base in Mürzzuschlag, Kapfenberg, Bruck an der Mur and Gloggnitz.
