Necton
is where Norfolk Vanguard connects to the grid

RWE is developing the Norfolk Vanguard West, Norfolk Vanguard East and Norfolk Boreas offshore wind farms, 1.4 GW each. The cables come ashore at Happisburgh and run inland to converter stations near Necton, just off the A47 between Swaffham and Dereham, where they connect to the National Grid. Onshore cable works began in 2023, and by the end of 2025 the haul roads and ducting were in along the full route. RWE's September 2025 newsletter named steel frame erection as the next phase at the Necton converter sites.

Vanguard West and East won Contracts for Difference in January 2026, Vestas turbine deals followed in February and March, and RWE targets commissioning in 2029 and 2030. A final investment decision was targeted for summer 2026, which we have not seen confirmed, and Boreas has no contract yet. Necton is a village of about 1,900 people, and planning documents route workforce traffic along the A47 and through Dereham, so crews base in Dereham and Swaffham.
