Isle of Grain, Kent. NeuConnect is a 1.4GW power link between Britain and Germany.

NeuConnect is a 1.4GW, £2.4bn high voltage direct current interconnector between Britain and Germany, with about 725km of subsea cable running from the Isle of Grain on the Hoo Peninsula to Wilhelmshaven. Siemens Energy is the main contractor for the converter stations and Prysmian supplies the cable. Financial close came in July 2022, drilling for the landfall and earthworks started in 2023, and construction of the UK converter station began in 2024.

In September 2026 NeuConnect reported the converter halls at full height, seven transformers in position and Siemens Energy starting mechanical and electrical fit-out, with trial operations planned for late 2027 and full operation in 2028. Grain is a village of about 1,730 people at the end of the peninsula, with very little visitor accommodation, so fit-out and commissioning teams base in Hoo St Werburgh, Rochester, Strood and Chatham.
