Civil works at the Gatika converter station are finished and electromechanical assembly is under way, NKT completed the subsea section off the Bizkaia coast in September, and underground cable laying from Gatika to Lemoiz began in late October 2026. Testing starts in mid-2027 ahead of commissioning in 2028. Gatika has about 1,600 residents, so crews base in Mungia, Derio and Bilbao.
